Amoxycillin Capsules BP 500MG

PRESCRIBING INFORMATION:

AMOXYCILLIN TRIHYDRATE BP 500 mg Capsules.

Amoxycillin (6R)-6-[a-D(4-Hydroxyphenyl) glycylamino] penicillianic acid) is an

aminopenicillin with action and uses very similar to those of ampicillin.

Absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is better than seen with ampicillin and is less affected by food.

COMPOSITION :

Each capsule contains Amoxycillin trihydrate equivalent to Amoxycillin anhydrous 500mg.

INDICATIONS :

Amoxycillin is used in the treatment of a variety of infections due to susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, enteric infections, meningitis and septicaemia. The dosage of Amoxycillin will depend on the severity of the disease, the age of the patient and then renal function.

CONTRAINDICATIONS :

Hypersensitivity to penicillin.

ADVERSE EFFECTS :

Allergic reactions may occur in sensitized persons. Skin rashes are amongst the most common side effects. Gastrointestinal effects particularly diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting may occur. The incidence of diarrhoea is less with Amoxycillin than Ampicillin.

Superinfections with non-susceptible organisms may occur particularly with prolonged use.

PRECAUTIONS : 

Amoxycillin should preferably not be given to patients with mononuleosis since they are susceptible to Amoxycillin induced skin rashes.
